DOHA: Come next month and Qatar will have its first mall exclusively for families, a senior official of the mall said.
“All the arrangements are in its final phase and we plan to have a grand inauguration of the Wathnan Mall on February 1,” Assistant General Manager, Shifa Ali Mohammad said. He said the mall will fulfill the needs of families who wanted a shopping centre where they could shop in the comfort of their families.
According to Mohammad it took three years to complete the mall and is built according to the latest engineering standards and modern art, while maintaining the heritage and urban character of the area.
Located in Al Rayyan behind the Racing and Equestrian Club, the 41 thousand square metre mall has been named after a horse owned by the third ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed al Thani.
“A total of 104 stores of various sizes, hypermarket, and a large mosque for men and women, besides 15restaurant for various tastes are the salient feature of the mall. In addition, the three storyed mall will have 6 escalators and 16 lifts besides parking for 700 cars,” Mohammad added.
The mall will have 7200 square metre Masskar hypermarket located on the ground floor and would offer very competitive price on all items. A total of 18 counters in the hypermarket would enable customers a fast and efficient way for billing, the Mall executive said. He said leading brand names in jewelry, perfumes, watches, garments will have outlets in the mall.
Asked why they decided to have a family mall, Mohammad said, in line with our culture we wanted to have a mall that would provide a shopping pleasure for families who could not do so at other malls or shopping complexes. “This mall was developed after taking into consideration the demand for a family mall in the country,” he added.
“The nature of the mall is to offer families a hassle free shopping and create a of new market segment which falls in line with our culture, religion and customs,” Mohammad added.,
He said he expected a lot of families to flock to the mall. “We will have security personnel in the mall to observe strictly family shopping rules and any offenders would be taken to task and no singles would be permitted in the mall under any circumstance.
Asked why Al Rayyan was selected for the mall, Mohammd said, “We selected Muaither North for the construction of this giant project as that was the need of the region for such a mall. The mall will also serve the adjacent areas, and will contribute to the development of the region and development of commercial and residential property in the area.”
